Workshops & Talks
Welcome to my workshops and talks page! Something that fascinates me is how creativity feeds into well-being, and vice versa. Plenty of research supports the notion that being creative is good for your overall well-being, but there is also substantial recent research to show that a creative career, such as music, can be very challenging, with negative impacts on well-being. How can we reap the benefits that being creative brings while remaining fulfilled if we pursue what started as a hobby, professionally? (disclaimer: I don’t necessarily have ‘the answer’, but I do have further thoughts, questions, and strategies).
My perspective is that it is essential to build mindset skills to facilitate flourishing creative experiences. We learn practical skills such as vocal technique, script analysis, and color theory, but often lack the necessary skills that get us ‘into the zone’ (and keep us there!). I bring together my experience in building a diverse portfolio career and my research into performance psychology (e.g. perfectionism) to help participants develop a creative mindset toolkit. Workshops are highly interactive, introducing essential mindset skills to complement existing artistic ones, offering unique strategies for creating freely, staying inspired, and building sustainable, fulfilling creative practices.
Talks are a great way to dig into the research behind the practical application, generate enlightening conversations, and contribute to changing the status quo when it comes to artists’ well-being. Recent and upcoming engagements include: leading workshops to enhance creative mindset skills (Trinity Laban 2024; Leeds Conservatoire, Feb 2025; BIMM Berlin, March 2025) and presenting my pilot study research (Association of Teachers of Singing Autumn Conference 2024; Pop and Jazz Platform at the European Association of Conservatoires Feb 2025).
